Acupuncture, bodywork, herbs and more to address pain and chronic conditions
Bob Clickner has been in practice since 1999, and located in Charlottesville since 2002. He works with patients to get to the root cause(s) of their health complaint; people often have important information and instincts about their bodies that help him solve the problem they are experiencing. Often there is an old injury or illness still making trouble, even in a different area of the body. Once it is treated, the body can do the rest of the healing on its own. He welcomes patients input in the process.
His specialties are in the following areas: Back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, neck pain (other musculoskeletal pain), migraines, headaches, insomnia, menopause, fibromyalgia, skin problems, whiplash and other accident trauma, post-surgical recovery, chronic fatigue.

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1999
What is your primary product or service?
I offer customized acupuncture, bodywork, herbs, dietary recommendations and therapeutic exercises to help patients reach their optimal health. I work with each patient to get to the root cause(s) of their health concern and treat that, so they not only get relief from their current complaint but also improve their overall health. I specialize in treating accident trauma (car accident, sports injury, falls, work-related injury). I have had a lot of success also treating persistent chronic conditions not responding to traditional care.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I learned about Chinese Medicine from a martial arts teacher I had in college, and decided to pursue a Masters Degree in Oriental Medicine. The more I learned about the mysteries of how the body works and heals, the more fascinated I became. The body is way more capable of healing than people sometimes realize. You just need to figure out how to unlock its healing mechanisms.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I am often told my patients that I listen in a way that their doctor does not. I also try to "think outside the box" to find a solution to their problem. I don't consider that the answer is necessarily the obvious one, although I don't rule it out. I feel that a patient's instincts about their health problem are valuable and use that in figuring out the solution. Often patients come see me after exhausting a lot of solutions -- I look in the less obvious areas, and sometimes that means looking at very old illnesses or injuries. A hard fall on the tailbone in childhood could be causing neck troubles thirty years later. Treating that old tailbone injury could fix the neck problem.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I have one Charlottesville location and currently don't have plans to expand.
Provide detailed directions to your location
I am located off Hydraulic Rd across from Albemarle High School. Look for Whitewood Rd opposite the high school. Turn on Whitewood, then take your second left on Sachem Place, which takes you into "Sachem Village". Turn into the first parking area on the right and look for 1414 Sachem Place. Drive around to the side of the building closest to the main road and look for door signage "Whitewood Therapy Center: Suite 1".
What type of payments do you accept?
Cash, check, mastercard, visa, debit card, Benny card (health savings account card). I can also accept workman's compensation payment.
Which areas do you service?
Charlottesville, Crozet, Scottsville, Waynesboro, Stuarts Draft, Richmond, Culpeper. But I have patients who travel from places like Pennsylvania to see me.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I do.
What are your hours of operation?
Monday through Thursday including some evening appointments. Fridays and weekends I take emergencies. Call for appointments, please.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
That I listened well and offered real help they hadn't been able to find elsewhere.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Psalm 37:4, 5 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
